Hello again. I am back with a new blog. Its not because I need to but because I couldn't resist writing one. I'll provide you a simple mnemonic for remembering THE ELECTROCHEMICAL SERIES.

A series of elements we come across time and often. And a must memorize part of High School. Remember the time you woke up whole night remembering it and the next morning the elements go upside down. The next day you bought a huge chart and stick on your bedroom but still had the confusions. Now Now dont worry I'll provide you with a sentance to remember it.Details below:

Remember: Electrode potentials are reduction potential at 298K.

now lets talk in brief about its application

  • Calculation of standard cell potential by Ecathode-Eanode. Remember First element in series become anode.
  • Predict oxidizing and reducing agent. lithium is strongest Reducing agent in solution.Remember Oxidizing agent undergo reduction at Cathode and Reducing agent undergo oxidation at anode. If u r still confuse which occurs where, then i have the solution of that too. Remember two animals RED CAT(Reduction cathode) and AN OX(Oxidation anode).
  • Predict dirextion of displacement. Upper in Series displace the lower one from their solution. Thats why u cannot stir copper sulphate solution with zinc spatula.
  • Metals above hydrogen can form the gas when treated with non oxidising acid.

Elements on Left side except copper can form Hydrogen.
